Schools out for summer …..

Yesterday was the last day of the school year for The-9-year-old and with mixed feelings, we have summer break ….

Mixed feelings because they are off school for what seems like FOREVER!

Well, 10 weeks to be precise, not that I’m counting or anything (1 morning down and only 68 days to go).

Things I’m loving this week

The ATO and The CRA

This week I’m loving the ATO (Australian Taxation Office)  and the CRA (Canadian Revenue Agency).  Weird right and not something you hear often, someone actually loving two of the most hated government agencies.

Having previously been a small business owner the ATO would often be a name muttered under my breath along with several expletives in the same sentence.  What has brought on this sudden love fest?

An Insiders Guide to Ice Hockey

I know I have blogged about Ice Hockey before but they don’t call it the “5th season” around here for nothing.    It is like The Canadian is making up for 10 plus years living away from North America and his mothership of Ice Hockey.

Australia wasn’t exactly a deserted island when it came to Ice Hockey.  He played Ice Hockey in an old man league in both summer and winter, NHL games are broadcast on Foxtel Cable TV, he has an NHL game on the Xbox and when he wasn’t playing the crush (candy crush – it’s his thing but we won’t go there) on the iPad he would be on the Sportsnet.Canada page.

Spring Break

This week it is Spring Break so the 8-year-old has a week off school.  As we don’t have Spring Break in Australia when Spring Break comes to mind I think of American College students partying on a beach with hardly any clothes on, copious amounts of alcohol, sex and vomit.  Disappointingly this is not how Spring Break is going down at our place this week.
