• Things to do in the fall to get ready for winter in Canada

Last week it was a big week for birthdays for friends and family back home in Australia so plenty of Facetime and phone calls.  I was asked a couple of times if we had plans for the weekend and I found myself replying with my usual September to April response that we had the 12-year-old’s ice hockey game. You see last week we transitioned into two seasons in one week.   Summer to Autumn and the 5th season here in Canada,  “Hockey Season”.   Summer is short in Canada, far too short, however, the 5th season, Ice Hockey is the longest and seems to go on and on forever. I noticed I…

  • I’m Back …..

It has been so long since I last blogged that I had almost forgotten how to log in and use WordPress. It has been 3 months since I last updated the blog and it turns out people other than my mum (Hi, Mum!)  actually, read the blog as I received a few messages asking if everything is ok or if I have given the blog the flick.  (very sweet) So what happened?

  • An Insiders Guide to Ice Hockey

I know I have blogged about Ice Hockey before but they don’t call it the “5th season” around here for nothing.    It is like The Canadian is making up for 10 plus years living away from North America and his mothership of Ice Hockey. Australia wasn’t exactly a deserted island when it came to Ice Hockey.  He played Ice Hockey in an old man league in both summer and winter, NHL games are broadcast on Foxtel Cable TV, he has an NHL game on the Xbox and when he wasn’t playing the crush (candy crush – it’s his thing but we won’t go there) on the iPad he would be…

  • The Ice Hockey Hall of Fame

Since our arrival in Toronto 2 months ago we have been getting out and about and playing tourist, getting to know our new town.   As we arrived at the end of fall and heading into winter we have mostly targeted indoor venues.  We have a list full of places we would like to visit and things to do for 2016 however some of them we will hold off doing until spring/summer.

  • The Toronto Maple Leafs

Following on from my last blog post,  An Idiots Guide to Ice Hockey  this is a post about the local NHL team The Toronto Maple Leafs. In our little family of 3, we have a supporter of the Winnipeg Jets (my husband’s hometown) and one that supports the San Jose Sharks so that left me without a team.  After our visit to Canada last Christmas and attending a Vancouver Canucks game I had taken on the Canucks as my team………………. or so I thought. As we have settled in Toronto and not Vancouver and as the other two have been supporting teams for several years (as well as owning a…

  • An Idiots Guide to Ice Hockey

This week we have been on an Ice Binge and I am talking about a drug, the drug of Ice Hockey.  Canadian’s are well and truly addicted to Ice Hockey! In the last week, we have been to the Ice Hockey Hall of Fame , been to a Toronto Maple Leafs Game, watched ice hockey games on Television it’s never not on, heard countless commentators talk about various games and my very favourite a reality TV show called Hockey Wives.   Tomorrow we will round off our week by going to yet another game at the Air Canada Centre this time a World Legends Classic game between two Old Cougar Teams,…
