Spinal Tap? I’m still not sure!

Don’t you just love an unplanned, spontaneous, last minute night out?

Especially when you have no expectations or idea what is ahead.

Late Wednesday afternoon The Canadian sent me a cryptic text message

I’m Back …..

It has been so long since I last blogged that I had almost forgotten how to log in and use WordPress.

It has been 3 months since I last updated the blog and it turns out people other than my mum (Hi, Mum!)  actually, read the blog as I received a few messages asking if everything is ok or if I have given the blog the flick.  (very sweet)

So what happened?

Silence of the Lambs

Over the weekend,  we celebrated a milestone with the 8-year-old getting a new moniker and becoming the 9-year-old.

Nothing says kids birthday than an afternoon spent watching medieval knights trying to kill each other as you chow down on a 3-course feast and so we found ourselves at Medieval Times.

The festival of I’m sorry!

This week I paid a visit to the Dentist, I have actually paid a visit to the dentist once a week for the last 3 weeks having various things done and this week she declared I am their favourite patient.

I bet I am, I thought as the cash dislodged itself from my wallet and into hers. What’s not to love about me financing that fancy car and the kids private school fee’s but then I felt like a bitch for thinking bad thoughts. I was going to get struck by lightning the minute I walked out of her office. All of the staff at the office are super friendly and nice and have made me feel more relaxed with each visit. I am a big wimp when it comes to the Dentist and because of this had put off going for a ridiculous amount of time. On my first visit, I apologised for the state of my teeth and so began the festival of I’m sorry!

Promises

Yesterday,  I visited the Dentist and after leaving with a very sore mouth I had a hankering for something soft for dinner so we went to Momofuku Noodle Bar for Ramen and Noodles (delicious, if you haven’t been I suggest you do).

Brass Monkeys!

I woke up this morning to our first extreme weather warning issued by Environment Canada.   My phone told me it was -18, the dude reporting the weather on TV told me with wind chill it was, in fact, colder.   It was my first real Brass Monkey’s Day.

Desperately Seeking a Doctor.

Over the weekend, sitting relaxing and watching the Ice Hockey (it’s the only bloody thing that is ever on TV in this home and drives me nuts) the 8-year-old thrust a foot in my face and asked, “is it normal that this thing I have had for ages has turned black?”

Desperately Seeking

**Apologies in advance, I do drop the f-bomb in this post**

One of the hardest things about moving overseas apart from the obvious, (saying goodbye to family and friends) is trying to find a new hairdresser.   I have enough hair on my head for 6 people, so I wear it in a short cropped hair style.  It is so ridiculously thick that when I go into the hairdressers for a trim enough hair is left behind on the floor that it could be turned into a wig.

Snow in Toronto … at last!

This morning when we woke up it was snowing!!!   Toronto has had a very mild winter this year due to El Nino, and I am told this is a good thing because apparently the last two winters have been brutal.   The plus of the relatively mild temperatures has meant on the downside we haven’t had much snow.     The Canadian thinks I’m totally cray, cray wishing for heaps of snow but then again I don’t have to commute to work and drive on icy, slick roads with the world’s worst Toronto drivers.

The 8-year-old and I bundled up and set out for our walk to school.   It usually takes us 10-15 minutes to walk to school but today’s commute was much slower as we both took in the beauty of the snow falling, trying to catch snowflakes, throwing the odd snowball and kicking up the snow.  It was just magic with the 8-year-old telling me, “Finally! This is what I signed up for when I agreed to move to Canada”

A place to call home

It feels like forever since I have done a blog post as the New Year period has all been a little bit of a blur and this hasn’t been due to an alcohol induced coma.
